“Novemberfest is an entity, an empty page that each year is written into the world with new, unique experiences. Being a part of this weekend feels special, important, and soul cleansing. Thank you to Andrew Hammond Kendall, the bands, the people who kept us all safe and the staff that helped put the event together. Here’s to many more weekends of Novemberfest, and the impact it has on this community.” -ERIN SHEA DEVANY, PHOTOGRAPHER ON THE SCENE
Kendall has been putting together a truly spectacular event every year since 2005. What began as a collection of DFW’s best music has since turned into a showcase, interactive art experience, and community based safe haven for all who attend. Each year Andrew somehow outdoes himself, adding layers and layers of his reality questioning art. Whether the medium is a print, wall painting, or found object sculpture, there is a very profound and bold surrealist nature to everything he does. Wandering the halls of the old boys home gives a haunting and nearly suffocating feeling, but with wonderfully open breaks into rooms that are beaming with art, music, and friendly faces. When you arrive to the fest, you immediately feel like you’ve stepped out of the realm of reality and into a world that seems almost intangible. This year, AHK even incorporated the art of a few different DFW artists, including incredible pieces by just a few of the metroplex’s best. The bands get an intimate experience with each audience member, and as soon as the sets are done there is a great outbreak of karaoke and drunken dancing that brings each night to a memorable end.
Here are a few photos of DFW artists and musicians who took part in the yearly gathering.
