Led by former Whiskey Folk Rambler front man Tyler Curtis Rougeux, this trio is like surf-punk meets folk in a fun lets-drink-some-damn-beer-to-this kind of way. Rougeux’s signature deep vocals can be found throughout the album released this year, Mood Shades. The song “Car Ride Home” may be my favorite from the album, starting with warm pop-punk vibes and opening lyrics, “Slip at the bottom of the sea / I woke up from having bad dreams / Things aren’t the way that they used to be.” Full 9 song album is available everywhere now. Always a pleasure to catch them live, they have shows coming up in Dallas, Austin and Fort Worth. 9/20/19: Spinster Records (Dallas), 9/21/19: Hole in the Wall (Austin), 10/18/19: Haltom Theater (Fort Worth), 10/31/19: Main at South Side (Fort Worth). Follow the band on Facebook and Instagram.
She is best known for her smooth soprano vocals steeped in a melodic, soulful sound – fusing classical soul, opera, hip-hop and more with her delightfully unpredictable set lists that hones her unique progressive voice. She made her international debut in Paris, France, playing her original music for NYE 2019. At the beginning of August she belted out her powerhouse voice at Louie Louie’s for Lockjohnson’s Playground in Deep Ellum, backed by the Skinny Cooks (another band I’ll talk more about in an upcoming issue). Charismatic and kind, this woman is a force to be reckoned with. She will be performing the national anthem at the State Fair Classic on Sept. 28th. Keep your eyes peeled for other upcoming show dates as well. She can be found on Facebook and Instagram.
