The Word on the Street
Thursday on the Rocks
At the Foundry 2625 Whitmore St.
M2G Ventures
Bi-weekly summer series 8-10 pm Thursdays
June 7th : The Hendersons, Matt Tedder
There’s a new venue in town called The Foundry, and the intention behind the Thursday on the Rocks Summer Concert Series is to do things a little differently. According to Cody Admire (former owner of The Grotto) and Natalie Pedigo (M2G Ventures), “We’re trying to create a place where art and music intersect.” The focus will be juxtaposing live music against elaborate art installations, live performance art, interactive art, vendors, brewers, and other cultural resources. This is a team effort, drawing support from numerous artists and bands and enterprises like Sallie and John Rode’s Pirate Radio (97.5FM).
Admire explained that partnerships with artists are about building an environment where “doing permanent art” is half the reason why people show up. Perhaps as soon as this summer they hope to bring in on-site tattoo artists. For now, the artists featured are working with other mediums, like photography, canvas, fire painting, spray paint, etc. to create works on location. Patrons will be able to interact and even contribute to some of the art being created at The Foundry, and select pieces will be auctioned at the conclusion of each event.
The Foundry seeks to bring local music and art to a crossroads. “It’s like Friday on the Green, but geared more towards adults who are tired of going to bars every time they want to see music,” explains Admire. The artsy stuff is there as a bonus, but also as part of the point. The Foundry hopes to team up with different local breweries every week, showcasing the craft beers brewed in DFW. This time around, local guitar hero Matt Tedder will play solo, and Nolan Ryan Robertson’s The Hendersons will also all be there. Local and national artists also have a hand in making the inaugural June 7th Summer Series show a hopeful success. Some of the featured artists this time around will include Hillary DoHoney, Eric Rodriguez (Drigo), Jay Wilkinson, Jeremy Joel, Brendon Pederson, Katie Murray, Nathan Madrid, John Whorley, and Monica Wright. Mark your calendars and show up to the Thursday on the Rocks Summer Series at The Foundry–it’s sure to become a vital part of The Scene.
