This dynamic duo were sent from heaven to steal your heart. Regina DeBilio and Rags O’Hooligan III are two insanely talented musicians who happened to fall in love, currently sweeping the DFW area off their feet with lullabies and dancing tunes that touch your soul. DeBilio has a background in studying opera at SMU, while O’Hooligan has been an award-winning folk artist, picking a guitar as leader of the former Straw Hat Society and The Gawd Almighties. Inspired by each other, these two have managed to write a plethora of songs which will be featured on their forthcoming debut album, currently in production with John Pedigo. Their Halloween single “Dracula Goes to Town” just released 10/25, with the music video dropping a few days later on 10/29. The video features puppeteer Will Schutze (of Mr. Bonetangles and the Trubbanauts) using his specially-created Dracula puppet to deliver a wonderfully creative performance as the star of the music video. Brody Price
I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing my first live set of Brody Price at the Double Wide in Deep Ellum during the extravaganza called “The Show to Begin All Shows.” Despite not knowing a single thing about this artist before he took the stage, my attention was immediately captivated and held as Price’s stage presence and banter had me laughing the whole time. One of the quirky moments included pulling a fan up on stage who was wearing his band’s shirt, Brody Price & the Tasteful Nudes, properly displaying him in front of the crowd as he tuned his guitar – insisting he do a little twirl for everyone. His approach to the live setting was fun & whimsical, yet the songwriting was thought-provoking and at times brooding. There was more experimental sounds than I had expected, but with a country twang that I really enjoyed. His new album Hoop Dreams just released Oct 18th, an 8-song masterpiece that I cannot get enough of. Not as many experimental sounds on the record (save a song or two), but a singer/songwriter style in the bulk of the songs – lyrically driven with comforting acoustic tones and some steel guitar. Joel Wells Jr & the Revelers Hall Band
Anybody who’s frequented the open mic scene in Dallas the past few years knows about the booming soulful voice of Joel Wells Jr. What’s new is that this powerhouse of a singer has finally found the band that can match his intensity and create a phenomenon that gets crowds dancing & leaves them begging for more. Revelers Hall is a new venue is the Bishop Arts district that has claimed a few of Dallas’ best jazzy big band players as their own. Kevin Butler (sousaphone/upright bass), Alcedrick Todd (trumpet), Phil Joseph (trombone), Daniel Porter (piano) and Christian Levens (drums) have been at the helm of the new hot spot, inviting Joel to sing with them once back in June – and now they play every Saturday and Sunday 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Revelers Hall, as well as recording an upcoming album that is currently being mixed & mastered. The full band has a show coming up with Fort Worth’s own Henry the Archer at The Kessler on November 8th, special guest Margaret Chavez from Austin, TX will also be performing. Tickets on sale now.
